  • Results were compiled from the firing discharges of PMNs that illustrate repetitive firing patterns similar to those in Fig. 8, A–C (i.e., bursting and high-threshold PMNs not included in data), after a series of 1-s depolarizing current pulses of increasing amplitude from a holding potential of approximately −60 mV. Measurements of the interspike intervals (ISIs) were carried out at the beginning and the end of the depolarizing pulse. a Firing threshold was determined as the lowest stimulation current necessary to evoke repetitive firing. b Firing frequency was determined as the number of action potentials per 1-s stimulation.c Current–frequency slope was the ratio of the first or last ISI frequency vs. injected current.
