  • aSummary of intrinsic properties of prototypic and arkypallidal neurons recorded in a perforated-patch configuration. Values are given as mean ± SEM. APth, Action potential threshold; APhw, action potential half-width. Driven firing rate and adaptation were assessed with a 2 s current pulse of 100 pA. Mean rebound firing rate was assessed after a 500 ms current pulse of -150 pA; one PV+ prototypic neuron and two arkypallidal neurons could not be tested for rebound firing because of premature entry into a whole-cell configuration.

  • *Reported for Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA on Ranks.

  • **Neuron groups with statistically different values (p < 0.05; post hoc Dunn's test). When all prototypic neurons were pooled (n = 19) and their intrinsic properties were compared with those of arkypallidal neurons (Mann-Whitney tests), all parameters, except input resistance, APth, APhw, and AHP magnitude at ∼40 spk/s, were significantly different.
