The diameter of the dendrites was measured 10–20 μm from the soma, at a point where it became uniform. The total number of branches was calculated considering individual branches as the segments between branching points, including the terminal segments (segments not ending in a branching point). The total dendritic length was computed as the sum of the lengths of individual branches. Values given as mean ± SEM (n). The statistical significance of the differences was calculated with the Student’s t test except the values of diameter of apical and basal dendrites. The values of these parameters did not meet the criteria for normal distribution and were compared with the Mann–Whitney rank sum test, being the medians of the apical dendrite 1.80 μm (LTS+) and 2.20 μm (LTS−) and of the basal dendrites 1.30 μm (LTS+) and 1.54 μm (LTS−).
